What each route costs over three years
Three years is the fairest window, because it is long enough for the upfront costs to stop dominating and for the running costs to show up.
A DIY builder at £25 a month is £900, plus twenty to sixty hours of your own time. A freelancer at £1,200 for the build plus £300 a year for hosting, domain and the occasional change is £2,100. Those numbers move depending on your situation, and none of them is automatically the winner. The point is that the figure worth comparing is the three year total, not the number on the front of the quote.
Being straight with you
When pay monthly website vs DIY goes the other way
You enjoy it and you have the time. If you are happy spending your evenings in a page builder, a DIY plan is cheaper and you will probably do a decent job. We are not going to pretend otherwise.
You need an online shop. We do not do ecommerce on a pay monthly basis. If you need to take payments, manage stock or handle orders, a DIY platform or a proper ecommerce build is what you want.
You need something custom. Client portals, integrations with other software, or a booking system built from scratch. That is an agency job, and we would tell you so rather than take the money. If you already use booking software with an embed code, that is different: we can add it to your site.
You want to change it constantly. If you plan to rewrite pages every week, a builder you control yourself will frustrate you less than sending us update requests.
For everyone else, a fully managed website for about the price of a phone contract is usually the sensible answer. You get a professional site, it stays up to date, and you never have to think about hosting again.

Over three years it usually lands between a DIY builder and a freelancer, and well under an agency. The figure that changes the answer is your own time: a DIY build that takes forty hours has already cost you more than the difference, unless you enjoyed doing it.
What happens to my site if I stop paying?
Within the 12 month minimum term the remaining months are payable. After that, 30 days notice ends the service, hosting and email stop, and ownership of the website passes to you. Nothing is held hostage.
Can I move to you from a site I already have?
Usually yes. We rebuild rather than migrate, because the point of pay monthly website design is that the structure is built for search and enquiries from the start. If you own your domain you keep it and we point it at the new site.
Do I get to choose the design?
You get a draft and up to three rounds of changes. What you do not get is a blank canvas and a template picker, because that is the part that stalls most small business websites for months.
